About Us
THE BASICS

We are a ministry that seeks to reach people for Jesus.  We strive to accomplish this at our 3 locations: the First Baptist Church located in Belton, MO, The Avenue Family Church located in Kansas City, MO, and the Iglesia Cristiana Jesuscristo Verdad y Vida located in Belton, MO.  The First Baptist Church of Belton also hosts a school (Heartland Christian School) to educate K4-12th graders for the purposes of being outstanding citizens and faithful Christian leaders.

LOOKING FOR A CHURCH?

There are many reasons why you might be looking online for churches but we would like to share with you what we are about so that, you can make an informed decision about us.  We love Jesus and each other.  All that we do reflects what Jesus commands in Mark 12:30-31.  We do our best to love Jesus with everything we’ve got, and we try to love each other as we love ourselves.  We also take the great commission very seriously, which leads us to reach out to the lost with the love of Christ.

It takes a lot of work to obey these commands.  So, we are a busy church.  We are constantly on the move doing things to fulfill these commands, and we would love to have more believers enter our group and serve with us.  If you’re looking for a place to pour out your life for God, then the First Baptist Church of Belton might be where God wants you. Choosing a church is difficult.  Our advice is to seek God’s will and figure out what you’re willing to offer God.  If you have a heart full of gratitude to Jesus for what He did for you on the cross and you want to pour out every part of you as an offering to him, we would LOVE for you to join us and help us as WE also, pour out OUR lives for Him.
With love,

The family of the First Baptist Church of Belton

BRIEF HISTORY

In the spring 1872, a few committed Christians met in the Hawkins School House south of Belton for the purpose of founding a new Baptist church. There were eight families who united together to build this church. Four of the families had fought with the South during the Civil War. The other four families had fought with the North.

With the help of the Blue River Baptist Association, these families united together to establish a new work that would minister in an area that had been devastated by the Civil War.

The new work, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, flourished and grew, eventually moving to the small village of Belton, and assuming the name: First Baptist Church of Belton. Through the years this church has maintained its Baptist heritage, still operating under the original statement of faith, handwritten in the original church minutes of 1872.

After meeting in the school house for a number of years the church moved to Main Street in Belton. Today, the Bank of Belton occupies what was once the First Baptist Church. In 1972 First Baptist built its current location on eleven acres of land. Today, we have a 900+ seat auditorium, a full-size gymnasium with bleachers, a soccer complex, a walking trail, and full-size playground facilities.

In recent years, our church has become a regional church, ministering to the southern metro-plex of Kansas City, and assuming the name Heartland Family Ministries: First Baptist Church of Belton. We invite you to discover the rich heritage of Heartland Family Ministries. Discover how your family can become a part of a historical ministry, making a difference through the power of Jesus Christ for future generations.
Mark 12:30-31
‘And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’  This is the First commandment.
And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  There is no other commandment greater than these.
Matthew 28:18-20
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matthew 5:17-19
Do not think that I came to destroy the Law of the Prophets.  I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
